Board member Marjolijn wins the Rev.Visscher Prize 2024!

Marjolijn Heerings, KOG board member, won the Rev. Visscher Prize 2024. This €20,000 prize is awarded for an outstanding dissertation concerning disability care. Once every two years, this prize is awarded to the author of an extremely valuable dissertation in the interest of people with intellectual disabilities, defended at a Dutch or Flemish university.

With her dissertation “The good care relationship in long-term care: attending to ethical tensions and burdens,” Marjolijn was chosen from eighteen submissions and awarded the prestigious prize. This study takes an in-depth look at the dynamics of the care relationship between care recipients and caregivers in the care of people with intellectual disabilities, people with serious psychiatric disorders and elderly care. The study highlights the complex ethical issues that can arise in the process. Her dissertation introduces new and relevant concepts such as “collective tinkering” and “the burden of support.
