Creative Methods

Qualitative research is a linguistic activity. In interviews, people talk about their experiences; in participatory observation, action practices are captured in an observation report and research findings are described in an article. However, a focus on language can also exclude people from participating in research. Also, some of the perception and action can become out of focus. The influence of the material environment on experience and action, for example; or sensory experience. For this, creative methods such as photovoice, ethnodrama and ethnographic film offer interesting alternatives.
